The illusion is now calculated
The bend used to be a stylised strength curve. It is now a real inverse-perspective projection: for every point of the picture at your working angle, the ray from your eye is intersected with the tilted panel, so the screen appears to stay put as the lid closes. The geometry follows the actual hinge angle instead of a blur amount, and it assumes someone seated at a desk in front of the MacBook, about 43 cm above the hinge and 49 cm in front of it.
- Below 27° the picture fades to black over ten degrees. By then a seated viewer sees the panel edge-on anyway.
- The effect appears without a visible jump when the lid leaves the working angle. The first few degrees ease in, so a lid that wobbles at rest doesn't pop.
- The opening click plays when the lid settles within a degree or so of the working angle, not only when it lands exactly on it.
New controls in Appearance
- Vertical stretch scales how far the top of the picture is pulled upward. 100% is the exact projection.
- Blur starts and Blur spread set where the variable blur begins and how far it runs before reaching full strength.
- Reset tuning restores the shipped values.
New defaults
Frost style, perspective strength 75%, vertical stretch 25%, blur strength 5% starting at 25% and spreading over 35%, working angle 95°. Existing installs pick these up once on first launch because the geometry model changed; adjust anything in Appearance afterwards.
Also
- Bendy's own Settings window is now captured beneath the effect like any other window, so the preview and the desktop agree.
- Thirty-five tests, including a check of the projection against an independent ray cast and pixel-level checks that rows and columns land where the math says.
0.3.3
- Smoother desktop capture through brief frame gaps, and protection against stale rendered frames.
- The opening sound plays only once the effect has fully cleared at your configured angle.
0.3.2
- Clearer guidance when Screen Recording permission is missing or stale.
- A branded installer with a drag-to-Applications layout.
0.3.1
- Signed with a Developer ID and notarized, so macOS opens it without warnings.
- License activation fixes.
0.3.0
First public release.
- Perspective bend, variable blur, and corner shadows that follow the lid angle sensor.
- Silk, Shade, and Frost styles, a working-angle calibration, and a menu-bar control.
- License keys from Polar, an opening click, and a once-a-day update check.
